OPERA IN DÜSSELDORF
The tradition of opera in Düsseldorf is well over 100 years old. Todays building has been rebuilt and refurbished several times, its most recent modernisation including technical innovations was completed in 2007.
The Deutsche Oper am Rhein is a collaboration between Dusseldorf and Duisburg, enabling productions to be performed in both locations. The opera house in Dusseldorf dating from the 1950s is situated centrally backing on to the Hofgarten.
A lively and, at times, traditional repertoire is staged throughout the lengthy season. Opera is renowned for its multilingual performances in German, French, Italian and also English.
As they say: “The Deutsche Oper am Rhein employs more than 580 workers with 35 different nationalities. They are living proof that music and art brings people together irrespective of geographical, political and linguistic boundaries and can start a dialogue which is important and essential to us all.”
