TAXIS IN DÜSSELDORF

Taxis in Germany are modern and clean, mostly Mercedes and always a light beige colour. They offer fairly good value for money when compared to several other countries. Most drivers are professional, knowledgeable, polite and friendly. As in other cities, all nationalities are to be found behind the wheel so driving styles vary accordingly. Most are more than likely to enter into conversation, although not so often secure with the English language.

In Düsseldorf there are two major organisations. Taxi Düsseldorf has been operating since 1928 and has some thirteen hundred taxis and numerous taxi stands where drivers tend to wait patiently in line and take their turn. The other, Rhein Taxi is a later addition with less cars under its wing but offering a popular service. It’s normally possible to hail a passing taxi nowadays too. Many individual operators form part of the system. Calling to their central reservations is still popular.

Besides their apps competition is available such as Uber, which has returned to Düsseldorf. Even Sixt has entered the business too.

A first journey from the airport can be a surprise for many foreign passengers when the vehicle speeds over the main dual carriageway access road to the city. Or, at times, sits for lengthy periods in gridlock.
