ENGLISH LIBRARY IN DÜSSELDORF

Image of books

An extensive selection of English language books are available to expats at the International English Library Düsseldorf. They offer international residents and local Germans a large collection of over twenty thousand books written in English.

Themes cover fiction and non-fiction, short stories, biographies, detective stories, history, philosophy, literary criticism, geography and travel. The collection also includes books for children and for young adults as well as world-acclaimed literature.

About fifteen hundred DVDs including some of the newest releases as well as movie classics from years gone by, movies for children and a selection of documentaries are also available for rent.

A cornerstone of local and international relations can also be found here. Visitors can enjoy time on the premises in the reading corner perusing one of the several daily English and American newspapers and magazines that they subscribe to.

The International Library has a long and curious history, with its origins dating way back to 1946. The institution has mastered each challenge thrown in its path, surviving and thriving through the dedication of a perpetual team of volunteers and a few determined personalities.

They welcome any support offered, so invite you to become a volunteer, sponsor or friend. Occasionally book sales are held, various regular events can also be attended on the premises.

Books and DVDs are also available at some city libraries, Stadtbibliotheken, especially the central library behind the central railway station.
