The state of North Rhine Westphalia is the home of a few of the most famous German teams. The capital hosts a team that has had its moments too. Known as Fortuna Düsseldorf, their fame and fortune stems mostly from the late nineteen seventies and early eighties.

The occasions to enjoy the atmosphere of top-class games come and go regularly, yet the team is seemly somewhat challenged to rejoin the first league, erste Bundesliga. Germany’s most popular sport was, is and always will be soccer, and it is of especially great significance to this region. The fans of Fortuna Düsseldorf are especially opinionated and mainly loyal. Their modern stadium affords good views, comfort and all necessary refreshments.

Following the Fifa World Cup in 2006, soccer euphoria has become credited for helping to create a society that feels happier with itself showing signs of patriotism.

Funfair ride against blue sky

Large events and activities happen in Düsseldorf throughout the year, some becoming nationally and internationally popular. Carnival is huge, as is the large funfair on the Rhine river bank opposite the old town. Others can have an influence on daily life such as the marathon and other races.

Original language movies are popular among expats in Düsseldorf. Films are frequently screened in English at a variety of cinemas in original with subtitles, known as OmU or Original mit Untertitel and without, portrayed as OV or Original Version.

The International School of Düsseldorf offers world-class education to inspire their students to be confident, creative and critical thinkers. They work together to challenge and support all their students to be successful and responsible in an evolving world.
